D’GLAMOUR FAJAS: WRAPPING WOMEN IN HAPPINESS

D’Glamour Fajas : Parer les femmes de bonheur

For almost 10 years, Maria Mateo Martinez has provided her clientele in Guadeloupe with a panoply of colors, fabrics, and designs in a variety of styles for all instances. And she is resolutely passionate about her work.

A chic, relaxed, flashy, or discrete look… the diversity at the two D’Glamour Fajas boutiques—in Baie-Mahault and in Le Moule— is surprising. The choice is eclectic as intended by Maria Mateo Martinez, who created the brand: “Every person is different. It is important that my clients find pieces that they like and that fit them; clothes that respect their personality and their desires.”
Love is the special ingredient for this businesswoman originally from the Dominican Republic. The root of her inspiration is her mother: “She instilled my desire for fashion—even if she didn’t especially want me to go into this profession. I grew up watching her run her boutiques in Santo Domingo, which she still does today.”
When she moved to Guadeloupe 17 years ago, Maria Mateo Martinez first worked as a buyer for various boutiques. She then dove head first into the entrepreneurial side of things: “Fashion has always been my passion,” she notes. “When you do what you love, you give your all, and even more. I am energized by sales and the contact with my clients. Their satisfaction is my happiness.”
She has met with certain challenges, especially the language barrier that “was quickly apparent. I was lucky that people welcomed me with open arms, so it worked out,” she recalls with gratitude. From the first day she opened, Maria Mateo Martinez has added a little something extra with her knowledge of American fashions that were popular at the time in the Dominican Republic, but more unusual in the French West Indies: bright colors, sequins, daring designs yet remaining classy, with a sense of simplicity or conversely a touch of boldness: combing chic and glamour at the same time. Trends that are now in keeping with the times in numerous Caribbean countries. Her wish for 2023? “To continue to grow, not necessarily in terms of boutiques but in the hearts of people. To remain in their memories for providing them with something good, that is the greatest wealth.”
