COMMENTS FROM MEMBERS OF THE ENERGY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE IN GUADELOUPE

REGION OF GUADELOUPE
“Sun, wind, geothermal, biomass, marine energy, and hydropower give Guadeloupe a rare diversity of renewable energies. With this in mind, the Region of Guadeloupe plans to enact an energy policy turned toward supportive and cohesive economic development. As a leader on the theme of Energy-Climate, the Region of Guadeloupe is invested in the projects that successfully manage energy consumption. In this sense, the island technically and financially supports outstanding examples of energy reduction, and the deployment of a regulatory agency in this field. These strategic orientations reflect the many actions taken by the regional collectivity, and its partners, to benefit the transition to sustainable energy for Guadeloupe.”

Sylvie VANOUKIA, President of the Energy Commission for the Regional Council of  Guadeloupe

DEAL (Department of Environment, Planning and Housing)
“DEAL is a decentralized service of the minister of the environment and energy transition. In the evolving world of energy, DEAL finds itself at the crossroads of numerous challenges: keep an eye on the supply security of energy for the region; authorize installations for the production and transport of energy; develop renewable energies; enhance underground energy resources; control the demand for energy; and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Energy transition looks ahead at the post-petrol era and the need to initiate a robust and sustainable energy model to confront the challenges of energy supplies, evolution of prices, draining of resources, and the imperative to fight against climate change, one of the priorities of the government. The French energy strategy announced by the prime minister in February depends party on energy sobriety, which means to consume less, but also to be more energy efficient. With all of its expertise, the role of DEAL on the Energy Management Committee in Guadeloupe, created by a partnership with EDF, ADEME, and the Regional Council, makes a lot of sense.”

Philippe EDOM, Deputy Director of the Risks, Energy, and service of DEAL in Guadeloupe

ADEME (Environmental Transition Agency)
“ADEME is the French agency set up to support collectivities and businesses in their projects for developing better waste treatment and circular economy strategies, energy management and renewable energies. In terms of energy efficiency, the agency is driving the national program for energy efficient home renovation support service, intended to advise and encourage households and small businesses in their quest to control energy use in their buildings. Guadeloupe’s Energy Management Committee leads and supports studies intended to clarify the decisions made by public authorities and orient their actions, for example, an analysis of the energy characteristics of commercial buildings, a better understanding of electrical equipment sold in Guadeloupe, or information about the installation and use of ceiling fans.”

Jérôme Roch, Regional Director of ADEME Guadeloupe

EDF Archipel Guadeloupe
“In our role as manager of the electrical network, EDF Archipel Guadeloupe is committed in a historic way to all activities related to controlling the demand for electricity on the island. EDF is naturally worked hand-in-hand with the key players in the energy field in order to create the Energy Management Committee (MDE) in Guadeloupe. Its top priority is to maximize and sustain the activities of the MDE:  installation of better performing equipment, awareness, and training. EDF wants to direct all of its toward more responsible energy consumption: a challenge for all our individual islands.”

Guillaume CREDOZ, head of the Energy Efficiency Service, EDF Archipel Guadeloupe
