Séverine Rousseau created the company, Crystal Corporation Entreprise, and the concept “I Wedding For You.” She shares her experiences as a wedding planner, describing the inner workings of her role as the orchestrator of a successful wedding.
ONAIR- The profession of being a wedding planner seems very popular, with many of them popping up on social media. What sets you apart?
Séverine Rousseau – Many people think it is simple to do this job, however the role of a wedding planner is regulated and subject to specific training. Personally, I am certified as a professional wedding planner by the International Wedding Institute (IWI).
OA – More precisely, what does this job entail?
SR – I provide an entire range of services, primarily in finding good partners: decorators, photographers, caterers… I also help the couple pick their wedding clothes and guide them through the process… There is also a psychological dimension and one must have a capacity for negotiation, as well as mediation in the case of any problems between the vendors and the bride and groom. So, I supervise, manage, verify… You have to create a synergy between all the professionals involved. The more we all work well together, the better the event.
OA – What qualities are required for this job?
SR – Planning a wedding requires a lot of time and patience, as well as the capacity to remain calm no matter what happens. These are the skills I acquired during my career with special events companies. My elegant approach, my taste, my excellent attention to detail, and my capacity to realize my clients’ visions have helped make me a well-known event planner. In addition, I was raised in an environment where listening and discussion were fundamentally important. My know-how, my personal skills, and my network guarantee a high-quality event.
OA – How are these assets reflected in your approach?
SR – My conceptual approach is personalized and adapted to the specific needs of each couple. This kind of celebration is a unique opportunity to help them express themselves in a creative manner, so I work with them to create an event that reflects their taste, their style, and their personalities. I concentrate on every detail to make sure my clients get the best level of attention and service that they deserve.
OA – What fuels your passion for this profession?
SR – Originally from Lyon, I grew up in Guadeloupe surrounded by a loving, supportive family that helped me appreciate the joys of being together. Early-on I appreciated getting together with the family on Sunday to share the delicious lunches my mother made, and my grandmother’s sorbets. Even today, being in contact with people I love helps fuel my love for life and my vision. It’s a privilege to have a business that creates connections. In addition to conceiving and planning events, I also help my clients celebrate their special moments thanks to the creation of personalized experiences.
OA – What are your plans for future development?
SR – I created I Wedding For You almost a year ago to organize all aspects of weddings. I can also officiate at civil ceremonies, and I am hoping to develop my creative passion for conceiving special events with an executive planning team to oversee all logistics and production aspects. I would also like to handle rentals of party equipment in order to provide decorators, for example, with out of the ordinary options.
