TRADITOUR 2023, FOCUS ON THE ARAWAK / MANIOUKANI TRADITIONAL SAILBOAT

The Traditour, a nautical event for traditional sailboats in Guadeloupe, set sail this year on July 8-15. Of the 30 boats on the starting line, the mixed crew sailing under the colors of the Arawak Hotel and the Manioukani group caught our eye.

The Traditour, the most popular event for fans of traditional sailboats in Guadeloupe, continued to modernize and evolve this year. In four years, the participating crews have gone from about 20 to 30, and mixed crews are more present, notably aboard the Aigle Des Mers,” the boat sailing under the colors of the Arawak Hotel and the Manioukani group. According to Mathieu Moures, manager of the boat and crew chief: “Our boat is the one with the perfect mix! Of the 10 members of the crew, five are male and five are female. The question came up with our association MAT & Co to rase two unisex boats, but it was finally decided to opt for one mixed crew, which better reflects our values. The feminine sensibility is more than welcome aboard and has already proved its value: the cohesion and complementary of the crew is evident.”

In support of this initiative, the department of Guadeloupe encourages such male/female formations by sponsoring t-shirts for the best mixed team for every stage. The “L’Aigle Des Mers” wore them proudly as of the second stage.

When the regatta crossed the finish line on July 15, Arawak / Manioukani finished in 13th place. We look forward to seeing them on the starting line again next year, when they have their eye on the top 10!
