AT MACTE, RONALD CYRILLE EXHIBIT EXTENDED

Au Macte, Ronald Cyrille joue les prolongations

On display at MACTe since November 2022, the exhibit by Ronald Cyrille, originally scheduled to close at the end of March, has been extended through July 31, 2023.

Ronald Cyrille, AKA B. Bird, is the guest artist at MACTe for the 2022-2023 cultural season. Since the end of last year, Guadeloupe’s Mémorial ACTe museum has presented a three-part exhibit of the artist’s work, with the different sections of this tryptic titled TIGRITUDE, EXODUS, and OUTSIDER. With a deep immersion into the imagination of this Caribbean artist, visitors are able to discover a unique and powerful style, rich in symbols, bold colors, and an intermingling of techniques. Collage, oil, acrylic, without forgetting spray paint: an indispensable tool for this veteran street-artist. All mediums are good as long as they allow the artist to express his inner poetry and convey his own mythology.

Questioning the nature of man, society, spiritualty, the relationship of the island and its cultural memory, the work by B. Bird is manifestly profound and loaded with meaning. Presented in several series, it provides a captivating diversity. “Diaspora,” for example, features highly colorful characters made of paper cut in repetitive motifs. The series “Green Paradise Lost” takes us into the luxuriant nature of Dominica, where the artist grew up. Then there is “ Full & Cut,” hyper graphic, playing with tints of tangy colors. Others include “Poetry Of Exile,” “Little Sweet Island,” “Exodus”…

According to art critic Daniel Rollé: “What is important with the work of Ronald is not to “see,” but to receive, to sense the silent emotion of the tableau, the otherworldly figures, fragile and strong at the same time, societal references, animalistic or natural, that challenge the viewer and summon reflection, interrogation, surprise.”

Don’t wait any longer to visit this exceptional exhibit, which explores an unusual space at MACTe, that of the transversal which divides the space of the permanent collection. In this way, MACTe suggests that the work of their contemporary guest artists creates a dialogue with the themes exhibited there.

DEFINITELY WORTH A VISIT… now through July 31.
