Pierre Sainte-Luce and his wife Corinne have owned Arawak Beach Resort for a few years, in the town of Gosier in Guadeloupe. They welcomed the African-American Ayo Tometi, co-founder of #Blacklivesmatter, as part of the “Rencontres du Nouveau Monde – New World Meetings” organized on July 9, 2022.
This was Ayo Tometi’s first visit to the French-speaking Caribbean. The co-founder of Black Lives Matter was interviewed by journalist Rokhaya Diallo during a “Whole-World-New-World” gala evening and a conference held on July 9, 2022. It was organized by doctors Corinne and Pierre Sainte-Luce in Arawak Beach Resort, their hotel located in Guadeloupe.
The idea of inviting Ayo Tometi is part of the couple’s desire to create opportunities for exchanges with emblematic personalities from around the world, whose thoughts and actions are inspiring and can shed light on today’s society. As a disciple of Glissant, Pierre Sainte-Luce understands that to ensure creolization of the world, it is essential to be in relation with the other and try to understand each other, but also to show one’s own culture to others. These meetings, which he wants to make regular, are intended to exchange with people from other cultures. And to share experiences.
A WHOLE-WORLD HOTEL ~ Les Guadeloupéens et touristes qui fréquentent les salons de l’Arawak Beach Resort Hotel au Gosier, bénéficient d’une programmation culturelle de qualité : cafés littéraires, expositions d’art contemporain, cafés philo, concerts… se succèdent à un rythme soutenu. L’hôtel se distingue en proposant une exposition d’art contemporain chaque mois. Il y a trois ans, l’artiste Joel Nankin inaugurait l’espace de monstration et présentait Kalabatola, une exposition plébiscitée par le public et qui a connu une affluence inégalée. C’est ainsi que l’hôtel est devenu très rapidement un haut lieu de la culture de l’île, grâce au nouveau souffle impulsé par le couple Sainte-Luce. Les personnalités ne s’y trompent pas, et on a pu y croiser à maintes reprises nos stars locales en la personne de Jocelyne Béroard, Jacob Desvarieux du groupe Kassav, ou notre star de cinéma Firmine Richard, mais aussi les éminences grises du monde universitaire comme Pap Ndiaye devenu ministre de l’Education, sans oublier les sportifs de haut vol comme Tony Parker ou le joueur de football Lilian Thuram, sa fiancée, la célèbre journaliste, Kareen Guiock, l’humoriste Fary… Ayo Tometi est la première invitée des rencontres du Tout Monde-Nouveau Monde qui se perpétueront.taught them how to use a UV light.
