AT MACTE, OVIDE CARINDO CONJUGATES BODY AND SOUL

Dancer and choreographer Ovide Carindo is the current artist in the Rési’DANSE artistic program at Mémorial ACTe in Guadeloupe. Through the end of August 2023, his multidimensional approach focuses on “Konjigé nanm é kò,” Creole for blending body and soul.

Originally from Guadeloupe and an artist at heart, Ovide has been driven by dance for many years. Be it contemporary, traditional, krumping, classic or modern jazz, he has studied these various genres for over a decade to add, day after day, more sense, more dimension, and more authenticity to his range of movement.

His steps are guided by his determination to understand the subject matter in order to construct then deconstruct it. Coupled with his experiences in the four corners of the globe, this determination has led him today to share a unique choreographic vocabulary that reveals a complex and committed intimacy.

Trained in the traditions of Martha Graham and Lester Horton (modern dance), as well as Caribana (traditional West Indies dance) and the Martinique-style ballet of Jacky Aglas, Ovide discovered classic dance and jazz at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York. A soloist for several companies, he is now developing his own art in the dedicated Rési’DANSE setting at MACTe.
This spring, he has been the principal performer in the Friday evening “Lalin Ka Kléré” nocturnal event at the Memorial ACTe museum. There he shows off his talent with a ballet in five acts that combines dance and the visual arts. His energy is powerful, swirling, free. In a spectacular manner, his presence reveals the various emotional states he conjugates in the present tense: pain, joy, fear, love…

To better comprehend his approach, and what he calls «full dance,» the coming months will be punctuated with workshops, masterclasses, collaborations, and performances in the heart of the ACTe Memorial to raise awareness among a wider audience,

Lalin Ka Kléré
(by the light of the moon) is a concept created by Laurella Yssap-Rinçon with the goal of presenting a new experience within the permanent exhibit at MACTe. As a guest artist, Ovide Carindo can enter into a dialogue between his work and the art at the museum, summoning the heritage of his ancestors, these keys bequeathed to him to overcome pain and preserve that which is beautiful. For this artist, the love that binds us together is stronger than anything else.
